Inspection chambers

When the plans for your build need access points to underground drainage, you may need install inspection chambers. These allow cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of pipes after the build is done, typically at junctions or changes in direction. In modern practice, inspection chambers are usually made from polypropylene or PVC-U and come with risers to adjust the depth to ground level. Historically, brick-built inspection chambers were used, and these may still be found on refurbishment projects.

Drainage inspection chambers are installed below ground and covered at surface level, often with a recessed inspection chamber cover to accept paving or finish materials. The type of cover will depend on loading requirements and surface use. You’ll usually need one at every change in direction or branch connection in a drainage run. Where depth varies, a riser section brings the chamber to finished level without extra excavation.
