Cable ducting

Cable ducting is used to organise and protect electrics and communication cables on site. It helps reduce trip hazards and limits damage from weather or impact. As a builder you might use ducting pipe for surface or underground runs, often during the early stages of a build. Modern systems include flexible ducting options, such as Polypipe Ridgicoil, which offer quicker installation around obstructions. Polypipe’s Ridgiduct is another commonly used option where greater crush resistance is needed, especially for applications subject to heavy loads.

Historically, rigid ducts made from clay or concrete were used in trenching before plastic alternatives became standard. Some older buildings may still rely on these systems, particularly in listed or conservation areas. Today, plastic ducting remains favoured for its durability, ease of transport and wide range of sizes. You’ll find ducting solutions suitable for temporary fixings, permanent installations and retrofits. Check your site specs before choosing between rigid and flexible ducting options.
