What is D4 glue?

D4 glue (or D4 adhesive) refers to wood adhesive conforming to EN 204 Class D4. It’s formulated for frequent, prolonged exposure to moisture. It can be PVA, polyurethane, or hybrid resin-based and bonds hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, particleboard, and similar materials.

Does D4 glue expand?

Accepted Answer

Some D4 adhesives expand (foam) as they cure, especially the polyurethane or MDI-based ‘expanding glue’ types used for flooring or joint & joist jobs. Others, such as water-based hybrid or PVA D4 adhesives, do not visibly expand.
