Postcrete and post mix

Post mix is a type of fast-setting concrete specially designed for securing fence posts, gateposts, and signs. Unlike traditional cement, it’s premixed and ready to use - just pour straight from the bag and add water. It also has a much faster drying time, with the mix usually able to support a post in just a few minutes. Although it doesn’t have the strength for general concreting jobs, post mix is ideal for small-scale structural supports. Many builders prefer post mix concrete for these jobs, since it avoids the hassle of hand-mixing small batches of concrete.

Blue Circle Postcrete is one of the most common brands of post mix, but Buildbuddy also lists a range of other options, including Hanson Postfix and Hanson Fast Set. Whether you’re fixing timber, metal, or concrete posts, using fence post cement mix offers speed and ease of installation.

Postcrete FAQs

1. How much Postcrete should I use per post?

This depends on factors like the size of the post you’re using, but a good rule of thumb is 1-2 20kg bags of post mix per post. Larger or heavier posts may need more.

2. How long does Postcrete take to set?

Most post mixes, including Blue Circle Postcrete, set within 5–10 minutes, although they take a few hours for it to cure fully.

3. Postcrete vs concrete – what’s the difference?

Postcrete bags contain a pre-mixed blend of cement, sand, and additives that’s designed to set quickly. Standard concrete takes much longer to set, but is also stronger than post mix, and suitable for a wider range of projects.
