Bottle gullies

Bottle gullies are used to connect surface water drainage systems to underground pipework. They provide a trapped gully connection for wastewater, rainwater, or combined drainage. Builders often install bottle gullies in patios, driveways, and around external walls to control surface runoff and prevent odours entering through the drain. Modern systems favour plastic units for ease of installation and maintenance, although older builds may feature clay versions still in service. Bottle gullies typically include a sealed access chamber for rodding and cleaning.

Bottle gullies are specified in new builds, refurbishments, and repairs across residential and light commercial projects. Some setups also include a drainage hopper, or square hopper above the gully, particularly where multiple rainwater pipes meet.
