Engineering bricks

Engineering bricks are specialist, non-facing bricks designed to have high strength and high resistance to water, frost and acid damage. Ideal for structural work where these properties shine, they’re often used below ground level for foundations, retaining walls, and DPCs. They also suit load-bearing walls and other projects that need extra resilience. Whether reinforcing structures or improving drainage solutions, they’re a trusted choice for professional builders.

Engineering bricks come in 2 classes, A and B. Class B are the most common, offering excellent durability, while Class A engineering bricks deliver even greater strength for demanding builds. And, although they’re not facing bricks, engineering bricks also come in different colours, mainly blue or red.

Engineering brick FAQs

What are the dimensions of an engineering brick?

Engineering bricks normally follow the same dimensions as facing bricks: 215 x 102.5 x 65mm, so that they can be used alongside regular brickwork where needed.

What do the different colours of engineering brick mean?

Traditionally Class A engineering bricks were red, and class B engineering bricks were blue. However, this is no longer exclusively the case.
